DWR, Hot Items We Can't Afford But Don't Mind Ogling

Once a month or so I receive the DWR catalog, this time of the month usually resembles something close to that time of the month, if you know what I mean?  After all you can't really expect me not to be crabby to look at all these absolutely gorgeous items that seem to be way beyond what I can afford, maybe you yourself receive a catalog from DWR and react exactly the same way?  If you do, you know that no matter how much it aggravates you to see these beautifully unique items you'd die to have for prices you can't even dream to pay you'd still flip through that catalog... and yes, I know, you'd still walk into that DWR store to take a look around.

Having said that, let's take a look at two items from the DWR Collection I thought worth mentioning,  with of course no actual purchasing in mind.

SAYL Task Chair $399 or $499 (prices differ by color)
By Swiss designer Yves Behar for Herman Miller
Dimensions: 34.25"-38.75"h x 24.5w x 24.5"d
Materials:  Elastomer, steel, foam, 100% reycled polyester seat

A new DWR product by Yves Behar who lives in San Francisco, the SAYL Task chair  was designed with the Golden Gate Bridge in mind hence the name "SAYL" which originally would have been "Sail" had he not changed the "i" to a "Y" for the signature Y back structure of the chair.  The chair took 3 years to make and is 90% recyclable and comes with a warranty of 12 years.

Sunflower Clock $1,085
By the designer George Nelson
Dimensions:  29.5"dia x 3"d
Materials:  Birch plywood, lacquered metal

The Sunflower Clock was first designed in the 1950's by George Nelson and was later reproduced due to it's popularity by Vitra Design Museum.  A vintage design that keeps ahead of the times is truly something unique and amazing, at a price of over $1,000- I hate to say it, but it looks well worth it.

Life In A Snail Shell

In the recent past I posted an article called "Amazing Homes Around The Globe", in it were pictures of amazingly unique homes around the globe, one of the homes in that post was in the form of a snail shell.  Today we look inside and get a feel of how our fellow slow, slithery crawlers really live.

Table Lamps

I've seen some really shoddy looking table lamps in the past, this is my reason for absolutely adoring well-made beautiful, unique table lamps.  I always think it's nice when people pay attention to little details as much as the bigger things... like furniture.  And table lamps?  Well, they just fit right between the two don't they?  Often missed probably for exactly this reason: they are neither big nor small.

Let me begin with lamps that I thought absolutely darling and having the power to transform a room by adding to it on it's own as a lamp and not just coexisting harmoniously with the other decor in the room.

West Elm Owl Table Lamp $99

Materials:  Resin mold base
Shade:  Rectangular linen
Components:  On/Off switch, 60W bulb included
Dimensions:  16"dia x 20.5"h

Anthropologie Menlo Lamp $148

Materials:  Sheesham wood, glass, nickel
Components:  96" cord
Dimensions:  10"h, 5"dia
Capacity:  40 watt max

I'm not usually fond of metal lamps but there were two I couldn't resist and had to admit looked pretty damn sexy, the first representing the modern and the second representing the vintage.

Crate & Barrel Sterling Desk Lamp $129

Materials:  100% Steel, Brushed stain nickel finish
Components:  On/Off switch, LED lightbulb included, 6" silver cord, swivel arm
Dimensions:  10.25"w x 4"d x 13.25"h
Crate & Barrel Sterling Desk Lamp

Pottery Barn Photographer's Task Table Lamp $99

Materials:  Cast of metal with canister-style head
Components:  Hi/Lo switch
Dimensions:  5.5"w x 8"deep x 16"h, extends to 19"h
Pottery Barn Photographer's Task Table Lamp

Here is one table lamp that I've been looking at for quite some time.  It's very simple, and as unusual as it may sound I'm not quite sure why it is that I'm so struck with it.

CB2 Rose Line Table Lamp $99.95

Materials:  Handblown clear glass base, red cloth cord, white linen shade
Components:  On/Off switch
Capacity:  100W max
Dimensions:  12.5"dia x 18"h

Mount That iPad, Wallee's iPad Case & Wall Mount

Many people I know and no doubt many people you know have the iPad.  So far I have seen the iPad on the kitchen counter along with dusts of flower and sauce as friends look to it for recipes, I've seen the iPad left sitting on the sofa under a pile of pillows, on the floor of restrooms, on living-room tables accessible to tots who love to throw things! Very handy indeed the iPad is, after all, it can do just about anything, do yourself a favor and take a look at this awesome iPad wall mount to keep the iPad accessible yet safely out of the way and your home looking tech-savvy.  And because it's affordably priced it can make a great gift for those you know who have the iPad.

Living On The Water: House-Boats

Relocation in process

When I think of house-boats I immediately have an image of a small 600SF box with partition walls, it all looks quite sad in my head much like a mobile home, which I'm sure I have the wrong idea of as well.  However, after some research and looking through some pictures I found that house-boats can vary greatly, a majority of them being very beautiful.

Though the thought of my house and all my treasured belongings sinking into dark waters or getting flooded out seems unappealing, the idea of being able to move locations from one side of the pier to the other for a change of scenery or on a simple whim seems fantastic.
