The earthy home via the use of wood

Under the rules of Feng Shui I am an earth sign which means that I get a lot of pleasure from using wood inside my home, and it just so happens that I am drawn to wood. But in all honesty, you don't have to be an earth sign to appreciate using wood in your home and I've got the pictures to prove it!

Below are a few pictures of homes that have incorporated wood into their home. It's beautiful, earthy and yet striking.

I find the mixture of using raw wood for walls and contemporary furniture rather appealing, a rather pleasant balance of rustic earthiness and current times is met perfectly in this way.

Hello color! Orange and green to pair with wood? There are no better colors to keep wood looking fresh, fun... and funky!

The wooden storage boxes along the wall storing wood amongst other things is a smart way to make wood useful as well as make it a key feature of a room.

Sometimes it is the simple things that get the most attention. Wood is incorporated into the design (pictured above) by way of the floating wooden staircase, the simple wood trim around the doors, and of course there is the oversized wooden coffee table. In this case, less is more.

And a few examples where less isn't more.

Two favorite looks of bathrooms that use wood as a main source of mood. The bamboo wood in the above bathroom is serene and zen, while the choice of wood wall int he below bathroom leans towards being more rustically chic.

A Very Hobbit-Like Home

A very Hobbit-like house by Simon Dale meticulously planned as if dug out from a hill side.  Made of clay and wood the house is surprisingly spacious indoors and houses a family of three.

The front door which is open in this picture leads into the kitchen & a view of the ceiling

Mix Furniture Store

There is a huge store in Los Angeles on busy La Brea Ave called MIX.  Well, there are many stores on La Brea and many of them just happen to be stores selling furnishings, lights and antiques and things for the home.

The Mix in my opinion is Emperor of all these stores on La Brea Ave.  A huge warehouse-like space filled in no specific order with all things you would imagine an east trading company to bring.  A great amount of large wood items such as wooden masks, bowls, starburst-like wall decor, tables of all kinds high and low, a huge bed frame with stacked orb posts, statues... daybeds with beautiful carvings!  Walk in and out of the many rows and aisles and continuously become enthralled in a store offering furniture and decor you think are only possible to get in the east somewhere.

The price matches the quality which seems to be great, but I don't seem to mind it, the price seems fair for these pieces.

The Nananu Low Chair

Just as weird as it's name the chair is as well.  A uniquely sculpted chair designed by David Trubridge who produced the Nananu Low Chair with untreated wood of three different kinds:  ash, hoop pine and plywood.  The chair has a soft bean-bag like shape from the side and is entirely made of  carefully curved wood slats with hollow body, and like it's name the Nananu sits low to the ground.

The Treehouse That Your Dad Didn't Build For You

My fascination for the tree house may have stemmed from the fact that like many other children I grew up with NO tree house, though I'm sure all the children who have grown up with a tree house have a fascination towards the tree house because they had grown up with one.  There's just no escaping it!  The tree house is cool.  On my little pictorial web research for the most fantastic tree homes around the world this is what I found, by the end of this post you're going to want to build an actual tree house for yourself, I'm sure of it!

Using Wood For A More Country-Style Living

I imagine living in a place just far enough away from the city, working in my very own organic garden where I plant and weed daily, come home in the evenings to the smell of wood to a home that will make me feel I am part of the earth.  I would cook hearty meals along with fresh salads and earthy wines to warm my belly.
