I Stand Behind: Ikea's Dragor rug

When I first purchased the 6'7" x 9'10" reversible Dragor rug at Ikea for $79.99 I really was just excited about the great deal for the large area rug. I did not expect it to last even 2 years, I honestly expected it to simply unravel with every step I took on it, but I was wrong, because here I am 3 years and some months later with the same looking Dragor rug- there is no unraveling, no thread out of place, no stain seen, it has survived one move and and a rather enthusiastic and playful poodle-terrier... and it is still the same Dragor rug I bought 3 years and some months ago.

I have come to love and appreciate the Dragor rug so much in fact, that I went and bought a second to place near the fireplace.

At $79.99 the rug is not only the most affordable in its size, but it also comes in three different sizes: 4'7" x 6'7", 5'7" x 7'10" and 6'7" x 9'10" and is also reversible giving you two different color-blocks to choose from, brown border and a beige center or beige border and a brown center. The flat-woven rug surface makes this area rug ideal for 1. Layering (as shown in the picture below near the fireplace) or 2. As a rug for the dining area where chairs will be pulled in and out continuously (as shown in the dining area picture above). And while some may say that the rug is a bit bland and boring, I say that the rug is perfectly neutral which means it is great for setting anywhere and easier to decorate around.

Item of Note: A+R's Color Carpet Rugs & Bau Pendant Light

Two highly note-worthy items worth the double take from A+R are the Bau Pendant Light and the Color Carpet Rugs. Perfect for the home lacking color... or not, these two smart and modernly fashioned pieces will more than likely add a little pop of something you just so needed.

By Normann Copenhagen & Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt's

"with a nod to the Bauhaus movement, Danish designer Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt created this stunning pendant for Normann Copenhagen, combining primary colors and geometry in the manner of De Stijl and Piet Mondrian. The sculptural design is based on interlocking geometric circles, with the pattern broken by disc colors, sizes and off-center linkages. In fact, she softens the rigidness of the geometry with transgressive, imperfect and challenging combinations."  -A+R description

Measures 17"h x 23"w for the small / 20"h x 23"w for the large

Tufted rugs that create optical transparency by using color gradients and using 100% New Zealand wool pile on 100% cotton backing. A spectacular collection of six carpet designs, each with its very own character."  -A+R description

Birds On A Mat! Birds On A Dish! Birds To Light Up My Life!

Decor designs are calling for warmer days by channeling birds.  I see Birds everywhere and there's no complaint here about that, look how cute they are!  Pictured above and below is the Chickadee Delight Doormat ($34.95 @ Mod Cloth).  Made from coir fiber with an oversized bird perched on a twig the design is simple and unique.

Above is a white Bird Bath-Room Soap Dish ($16.99 @ Mod Cloth) though I think it would be just darling as a sponge dish next to the kitchen sink or even as a trinket dish on your vanity table as well.  I have a porcelain claw-tub soap dish being used as a sponge dish in my kitchen, it's amazing how such a small item can transform and complete the feel of an area.  If you don't use bar soap try such a dish as a sponge dish, I think you'll be surprisingly satisfied.

The popping colors and the birds in flight in this Bright in Flight Lamp ($87.99 @ Mod Cloth) is uplifting- perfect for childrens' rooms or your quirky mod home decor.

The Rug That Ties It All Together

Having lived most my life in dwellings lined with wood floorings I've become a big fan of rugs.  And since living on my own I have a new appreciation for rugs, not only for covering up floors I don't want harmed or keeping my feet warm from the cold wooden floor during the winter months, but also a new found appreciation for it's ability to make a room complete.  Dwellers living in homes with wood floors know exactly what I'm talking about, you can have all the beautiful furniture in the world and that room just won't be what you want it to be without that special rug.

Though one can get away with bare floors in kitchen, mudroom, bedroom and even the bathroom it just doesn't seem to be possible in the living-room.

Imagine how much more beautiful & complete these rooms would
be with a suitable rug that matches each of the room's unique style.

I've seen and shopped for my share of rugs and I know that prices can vary greatly depending on foremost the size of the rug and then the material of the rug.  An area rug can cost thousands and go as low as under $100- impossible you say?! 'Tis true I say, I currently have an area rug in my living room roughly 7'x10' that cost me an awesome $80! (Dragor, two-toned flatwoven from Ikea) it continues to serve me well and make the room hummmmm in 'together-ness'.

When shopping around for rugs I would start at Ikea, there you can find greatly priced rugs, keep in mind this doesn't necessarily mean they are badly made and won't hold up- this is what I thought as well when I bought my inexpensive yet lovely rug at Ikea but it's been great so far!  Try Cost Plus World Market next, this is where I usually go next if Ikea doesn't do the trick, the rugs at Cost Plus are also nicely priced though not as cost-effective as Ikea they have great rugs for much cheaper than other places.  Happy hunting!
