Item of Note: Copper Dial Thermometer

For as long as I have known him, my husband has had a thing for thermometers, specifically the kind that gives you a reading on the weather. Since I have known him he has bought a total of three thermometers, all of which, in his mind is not the one he was looking for; they were either too inaccurate, simply, the thermometers were inconvenient in some way or other. Living with him I have come to realize that being a perfectionalist is hard in a world where everything is made by man, who is, in a word, imperfect.

Browsing Terrain one day, I came upon their new copper thermometer. Beautifully designed and said to be highly accurate this German thermometer is the first thermometer I have had an interest in and when I introduced it to my husband actually peaked an intense interest in him as well, especially the "highly accurate" phrase.

While I cannot say that this is the perfect thermometer (that is a rather bold and rare statement) I can say that it is nearest to the perfect thermometer that I have yet to come across. And of course it is absolutely beautiful too, which simply goes to show that a thermometer does not have to be unattractive, which unfortunately they usually are.

Charming 'trinket and other things' tray

A closer view of the Small Etched Blossom Tray

One of the most useful objects I believe anyone can have in their home (minus the junk drawer) is the 'trinket & other things' tray.  Whether it be placed on your kitchen counter, in the office, near the front door, or in the master bathroom the 'trinket & other things' tray holds everything that is used everyday, temporarily, we're talking keys, wallets, money clip, change, rings even (should the tray be in the right place of course), sunglasses- yes! Doggie leash? Perhaps, a roll of doggie poop-bags? Can't find a better place in my book! A pit stop at the tray of everyday needed and used goods means there's a place for all those things... and, you won't lose them, no more wandering around the house thinking "now where did I put those darn sunglasses?"

When I saw these Etched Blossom trays at Terrain (which are available in two sizes: large and small) I immediately thought how beautiful these trays would be for trinket and other things.

Rare Picks for Soap Dishes

Areaware Offer Hand Soapdish $65
Terrain Mesh Soap Dish, $7.95 (ON-SALE NOW!)
Costplus World Market Ivory Whale Soap Dish, $6.99

The square soap-dish with floral designs or whatever it is they decide to adorn it with are a dime a dozen.  I'm always looking for something different and unique, and if you've got a quite minimal look going on in your bathroom or even kitchen (where a soap dish can double as a sponge holder) then a truly cute, stand-out soap dish can really make a difference.

The top-picks for "stand-out" soap dish comes from Areaware, Terrain and Costplus World Market.  Each with their own specific attitude it's hard not to be interested, simply looking at these soap dishes make you feel something, and for such a simple over-looked item such as a soap dish to do that is quite unique.
