Central Station original interiors

When I think of an ideal interior decor for myself I see an urban structure with lots of wood, many would say "modern rusticity" is where my heart falls.  This is the reason why I fell in love with the pieces at Central Station, the epitome of modern rusticity is seen in every single piece.  The wood carefully chosen, handmade, designed and polished with the kind of wood it is using in mind.  The Signature pieces combine wood with metal to create the ultimate modern rusticity effect, and if this wasn't awesome enough, Central Station has done one better...

Creating simple wood pieces in it's Basic collection, a line of pieces that forego the metal to keep it all wood, creating a more rustic and simple effect.

*As read on the Central Station site:

is a furniture manufacturer unlike most others in that each piece is custom built by hand with hand-selected materials from various parts of the world.  Paul Delaisse, owner and creator of Central Station Interiors is originally from Antwerp, Belgium.  He travels the world extensively searching for new materials nature has to offer.  Every piece of wood used to make this unique furniture is chosen for its natural elements - the grain, the burl, and the knots all become a part of the overall design.  Reclaimed teak, as well as French oak, African Walnut, American Black Walnut and Belgian Bluestone are some of the materials used in CS' designs.  This distinctive, custom-built furniture is created for lasting beauty - furniture that nature has had a hand in forming, whether it is for classic, transitional, or contemporary spaces.

Produced by Matter

The work of Paul Loebach first caught my eye when I did a short post on the Paul Loebach Credenza featured in West Elm, the design was simple and yet the detailing was something to talk about - this is what I immediately liked about Paul Loebach's design.  Naturally I looked into Paul Loebach further, and was pleasantly surprised.  Paul Loebach is not a fleeting designer, it does indeed seem, that he is here to stay as most innovative and out-of-the-box designers are.  The quality of Loebach designs is comparable to that seen in DWR (Design Within Reach) stores but the designs lean more towards a warmer and welcoming atmosphere.

DWR Eames Lounge & Ottoman gets a boost

DWR's Eames Lounge & Ottoman can very well be known as the "face" of DWR.  Since the Eames Lounge & Ottoman introduction in 1956 it has continuously been in production and just recently the lounge and ottoman has produced a new addition in White Ash and Pearl Leather, giving it the ultimate modern oomph, not that it was much needed.

Esquire Home, Furniture For Men

Esquire Home, I'm assuming this is the same Esquire that is the men's magazine, brings to you furniture... for men! Wah-La!  Maybe Esquire Home has been out for months, maybe years- but I think, "by golly, it's about friggin' time!"  All you bachelors out there will surely go out for drinks tonight and cheer to this moment in history.

Pictured below is the Manhattan, a little bar in the form of an old luggage box that would be perfectly snug in your living-room corner or dining room corner.  Many places don't come with bars and the chances of a bachelor pad having a built in bar is even more rare- fix that with the Manhattan.

25.5" x 24" x 62.5"

Gimlet
59" x 35.5" x 16.5"

I picture a long wooden entry hallway, modern wall sconces with warm lighting brighten the way.  Quite near the door, on the wall are pegs where an umbrella and a coat hang, across from the pegs I see sitting the Vesper bench.

Edwin Blue Lives By Their Motto: Handmade Modern

The quality of the furnishings produced by Edwin Blue is comparable to that of Design Within Reach (DWR).  And while the two furniture design companies can be compared to each other there is still a striking difference.  While DWR reproduces designs from carefully picked designers around the world and is made up of many talented designers designing furnishing for them, Edwin Blue produces their own fresh designs.   And Edwin Blue makes for today, makes by hand, and makes with the combination of old and modern tools, hence their motto "Handmade Modern".

There is a kind of exuberance one can see in the furniture, at a glance you can see there is something about it, it's hard to place whether this something comes from the shine and perfectly placed wood or perhaps it's the way the supporting brushed steel gives it that modern edge...?  I think I've got it, the exuberance, this something we speak of is simply the quality that can be seen in beautifully handmade furnishings.

Read about Edwin Blue, as read on their official Edwin Blue site:

The Story of Edwin Blue

Edwin Blue is the American spirit that cherished the pride of tradition, hard work, craftsmanship and the idea that something should be built for generations to enjoy.

At Edwin Blue, our mission and namesake is dedicated to reviving the spirit of a time in which treasured things were built to last. In the spirit of the American entrepreneurship that built this country, our products are 100% designed, manufactured and made on U.S. soil. More than furniture, it is the embodiment of a time that cherished beauty, quality and steadfastness in the world.
Edwin Blue is our heritage, and your heirloom.

Handmade Modern

This furniture is not made in a factory. The Edwin Blue design and fabrication studios are steeped in technology and tradition. On it’s exterior is a century old horse stable, but upon venturing inside you will find a bustling studio of skilled craftsmen using both traditional old world tools and highly advanced machinery. The combination of traditional craft and advanced technology is the essence of what it means to be Handmade Modern. It is this combination that affords us the ability to manufacture products at a quality unrivaled in the furniture market today.

Our craft is in hand polishing the stainless steel in perfectly mitered seams. Our compositions are written by hand selecting wood and arranging it so that each piece compliments the next. Our passion is in constructing frames to exacting detail for hand attaching board after board. Our heirloom quality products are not merely pieces of furniture. They are works of art.

The Story of Sinker Cypress

The term “Sinker Cypress” refers to lumber produced from a Cypress tree felled in the Southeast region of the United States at the turn of the 20th century during the time of the American industrial cypress harvest. These trees were, at the time, anywhere from 100-1,000 years old making their strength impossible to reproduce in modern, new growth cypress.

During the logging process, many of these trees sank to the bottom of the river systems that were being used to float the logs downstream to the wood mills. There they sat, at the bottom of these rivers for decades. Some even approximately 100 years or more. It was here that the cold temperatures and lack of sun light preserved the wood from decay. Lying in the river beds also allowed sediment to collect inside the wood, giving the material a color variance unique to “Sinker Cypress”. This material is ideal for use outdoors due to its high oil content making it resistant to rot, decay, and insect infestation.

Liz O'Brien, An Eye For Unique Goodies

Trestle Desk by Alessandro Albrizzi (1934-1994)
30"H x 60"W x 30"D

There is no better way to describe the pieces that make up Liz O'Brien's collection other than calling them "collector pieces".  Specifically specializing in vintage pieces, Liz O'Brien's collection is made up of furnishings, wall art and accessory pieces such as candle votives and jewel boxes.  However different all these pieces may be from each other there is one thing they all have in common, and that is that they all are transcendent from others of their kind.

Above and below are a few pieces that I thought were absolutely divine, I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have.
