The architecture of this ranch-style house goes against the noteable "low" characteristic of ranch-style houses (with the pointed roof), however the open floor-plan and the natural surrounding backdrop seems to be that of a ranch-style home.

A restaurateur's haven in Martha's Vineyard

I've heard of Martha's Vineyard quite a bit in passing but never really knew what or where it was, but now I know, in a nutshell, Martha's Vineyard is a haven.  A place where one keeps their vacation home, a place where it is quiet and green, sounds like my kind of place.  Here are some beautiful pictures I found at Elle Decor of a New York restaurateur's home in Martha's Vineyard, really very beautiful.

A Very Hobbit-Like Home

A very Hobbit-like house by Simon Dale meticulously planned as if dug out from a hill side.  Made of clay and wood the house is surprisingly spacious indoors and houses a family of three.

A Home In The Mountains VS A Loft In The City

Now that I'm getting older and newly engaged I often think about where I would like to settle down.  I'm a city girl inside and have always seen myself living in a loft in the city, I get excited over floor-plans and the things I can do with them.  But a part of me would love to live near the mountains or at least in a more rural area the city can't provide for me, I just think of fresh air and quiet... and of course a proper vegetable garden.

I imagine living in a place just far enough away from the city, working in my very own organic garden where I plant and weed daily, come home in the evenings to the smell of wood to a home that will make me feel I am part of the earth.  I would cook hearty meals along with fresh salads and earthy wines to warm my belly.
